Tamedia, Zurich

Housed in a timber-framed building, the head office of TX Group AG (formerly Tamedia) was designed by Shigeru Ban. The innovative seven-storey building was constructed without any metal parts. Clearly visible through the glass building envelope, the striking timber support structure gets extra attention in the evening thanks to a precisely positioned light architecture.

The lighting is part of a sustainable concept focussing on energy efficiency and modern workplace requirements. Discreetly integrated into the support framework, the lamps present the timber structure to full advantage. Spot and linear lighting in the foyer creates a distinguished ambience, while the lighting in the high-traffic areas provides guidance. The ceilings in the open-plan offices also remain untouched, with the lighting concept consistently following the use and context requirements in line with the rest of the building.
