The Circle, Kloten

Located at the Zurich-Kloten airport, The Circle is a crescent-shaped, ten-storey building complex designed by the Japanese architect Riken Yamamoto that boasts 180’000 m² of floor space. With an investment total of one billion francs, The Circle was the largest building site in Switzerland until its opening in 2020.

The lighting concept showcases the iconic architecture and enhances the spatial clarity of the complex. Visitors are guided through the spaces and alleyways between the individual building structures, while coordinated lighting levels create a welcoming atmosphere in the different areas. At the same time, the lighting provides guidance and safety.

Strategic accents define visual anchor points in the architectural spaces and highlight the spatial hierarchy, emphasising the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the complex. The surrounding access paths extending as far as the adjacent Butzenbüel nature park are included in the subtly nuanced lighting concept.
